MIOSHA Workshop – Excavation: The Grave Danger
This seminar will provide an overview of MIOSHA Part 9, Excavations, Trenching, and Shoring. This program will include a description of the hazards in and around an excavation, a discussion on the duties and role of the qualified person, a discussion on soil classification and testing, and an overview of the protective systems used to support and protect employees in an excavation. This program is an elective for the MTI construction compliance tract. As an elective for the MTI program there will be a review and assessment at the end of the
program. Jeremy Hidalgo, Construction Safety Consultant with MIOSHA will be your instructor.

“Student training manual and course reference materials are being provided in electronic format for students to download and print before class if they wish. No hard copy text book will be provided at the class. Upon arrival at class, each student will also receive a flash drive containing these materials which is theirs to keep. Excavations: The Grave Danger
•Effective Oct. 1, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration moved forward with an updated excavation and trenching National Emphasis Program. The safety enhancements represent a renewed effort on the part of the agency to prevent excavation and trenching collapses in the wake of an uptick in trenching fatalities.
